The Sanctuary needs a vehicle!

The Sanctuary at Wolf Creek is currently without a vehicle. The Land truck died several months ago, as did the only personal vehicle of the Caretaking Community. Neither vehicle has been left in the Sanctuary parking lot. : ) Also not in the parking lot is a vehicle which DOES work.

This is a serious situation that needs to be addressed. Emergency situations can arise at any time, as well as the regular ongoing need for food and propane. Visitors without their own transportation can't be picked up. Mail can't be gotten or sent.

Although visitors with vehicles have been helping as much as possible, it is not a workable solution to rely solely on them. I think it safe to say that the last thing any visitor would like to do is an extended shopping run into Grants Pass, especially if they are staying only a day or two.

One faerie has indicated that he will be donating a truck to the Sanctuary in the near future. This truck will serve the needs of the Sanctuary for a long time to come – it is in excellent mechanical condition. Until this truck is donated, however, there remains the need for a working vehicle.

There are a couple of ways that a vehicle could be made available for use at the Sanctuary.

One is a donation of a vehicle. Nomenus is a tax exempt organization, and can accept tax deductible donations to the extent allowed by law. My local NPR station has daily announcements about the fact that they can accept vehicles and give a tax credit to the donor. We can do the same thing. Although Nomenus has been the recipient of many spontaneous donations of non-working vehicles in the parking lot, in this case the donation should be a working and serviceable one.

You could also lend a vehicle to the Sanctuary. Nomenus will insure it, as well as cover any registration fees needed. Because of liability issues for Nomenus, in all cases the only driver(s) would be licensed and registered on the insurance, as well as being acceptable to the owner of the vehicle.

A third possibility is to rent a vehicle until one is donated. In calling around to rental agencies, the cost is prohibitively expensive. However, if you have a vehicle that you would rent to the Sanctuary for several months, we would be happy to look at that proposal.

Ideally the vehicle would be a truck with an open bed. This is due to the fact that propane can not be transported in an enclosed vehicle. Also worth considering is a car with a trailer hitch – the propane can be transported in the open trailer. But the Sanctuary will make do with whatever vehicle comes our way as long as it runs and can be legally registered.

If you have any questions, or need more information, please contact the Sanctuary at 541-866-2678 or email at nomenus@budget.net.
